Seiring perkembangan zaman yang berdampak pada perkembangan teknologi di mana dunia saat ini sudah mengenal apa yang disebut internet, sistem pembayaran pun menemukan arah baru. Ada yang menginginkan digitalisasi sistem pembayaran namun tetap menggunakan instrumen konvensional, maka muncullah uang elektronik. Namun ada juga yang menginginkan digitalisasi sistem pembayaran dengan menggunakan instrumen digital juga, maka muncullah uang digital atau dikenal dengan cryptocurrency. Uang Digital (cryptocurrency) masih menuai pro kontra pada kalangan ulama. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik studi kepustakaan. Hasil penelitian ini menurut Abu Ubaid pada Kitab Al-Amwal uang digital (cryptocurrency) tidak memiliki fungsi uang yang sesuai dalam Islam sehingga tidak dapat diakui sebagai alat transaksi pembayaran yang sah.
