Otitis media akut (OMA) merupakan satu dari penyakit yang paling umum dijumpai pada populasi anak – anak. Penyakit ini ditandai dengan penonjolan atau bulging dari membran timpani yang terjadi bersamaan dengan gejala otalgia dan gejala non spesifik seperti demam, iritabilitas dan malaise. Faktor risiko penyakit ini berhubungan dengan usia muda, genetik, riwayat infeksi saluran nafas atas berulang, gangguan sistem imun hingga kelainan anatomi wajah yang mempengaruhi fungsi tuba eustachius. OMA perlu penanganan yang tepat untuk mencegah komplikasi di masa depan seperti gangguan berbicara dan berbahasa pada anak karena penurunan fungsi pendengaran yang diakibatkan oleh penyakit ini. Tinjaun kepustakaan ini bertujuan membahas diagnosis dan tatalaksana terkini untuk penyakit otitis media akut.
