Penerapan Education for Sustainable Development(ESD) pada materi perubahan lingkungan sangat penting dalam pengembangan modul ajar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas X SMAN 2 Mranggen. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive random sampling dengan total sampel sebanyak 35 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam bentuk tes tertulis mengacu pada indikator berpikir kritis yang dikembangkan oleh Ennis. Indikator keterampilan berpikir kritis yang diukur adalah : 1) Memberikan penjelasan sederhana (elementary clarification); 2) Membangun keterampilan dasar (basic support); 3) Penarikan kesimpulan (inference); dan 4) Memberikan penjelasan lebih lanjut (advanced clarification); dan 5) Mengatur strategi dan taktik (strategies and tactics). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara umum rata-rata kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik SMAN 2 Mranggen masuk kategori rendah. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi dan tes tertulis. Hasil penelitian digunakan sebagai bahan pengembangan modul ajar konsep perubahan lingkungan berbasis Education for Sustainable Development(ESD) untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa.
